Pettapiece criticizes Fall Economic Statement

Perth-Wellington’s MPP says the Liberals’ need a “dose of reality.” This comes after the provincial government released its Fall Economic Statement.

In it the Liberals are projecting a drop in the deficit from $8.5 billion to $7.5 billion for 2015-16. Randy Pettapiece calls it “nothing but creative accounting.”

In a release he says the Liberals had to raid the reserve fund and sell off Hydro One to make that drop happen.

Pettapiece adds he believes the Liberal promise to balance the budget by 2017-18 is a “fiscal fairy tale.” Last month the province’s Financial Accountability Officer said the government faces a “significant” risk to that promise.
