South West LHIN getting new funding for better stroke patient treatment

The provincial government is sending some money to our region to improve stroke patient treatment.

Michael Barrett, the head of the South West Local Health Integration Network, has confirmed the new funding in a report by the London Free Press.

Stratford General Hospital could benefit from the extra funding as its one of three stroke treatment centres in the LHIN.

Barrett told the Free Press he’s not sure yet how much money will be coming but he had requested just over $2 million up front plus roughly another $2 million per year.

The new funding could be put towards expanding all three’s treatment capacity as well as opening a new stroke treatment centre in St. Thomas.
