Merle Brickman, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday June 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ellice Township, October 31, 1932, daughter of the late Lawrence and Florentina Priestap and step-daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice Leake. Merle and her late husband Cecil (December 16, 2005) farmed for many years in Ellice Township. Merle was an active member of 2nd St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wartburg and was an avid fan of harness racing and the Toronto Blue Jays. Beloved wife of the late Cecil Brickman and loving and supportive mother of Bruce and wife Colleen, Pauline and husband William Gibbons, Debbie and husband Paul Reece, Janice and husband Edwyn Murray. Merle will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie and husband Christopher Smith, Jodi and husband John Baumbach, Sarah and Adam Reece and by her great grandchildren Nadia and Tyson Baumbach and Sidra and Lantana Smith. Merle is survived by her siblings Lundy Priestap, Ken and wife Kathy Priestap, Marlene and husband Val Steckley along with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Glen Brickman and wife Audrey, Dan Brickman and wife Joan and Shirley Feltz and husband Roy, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Merle was predeceased by a brother Wendell in infancy, sisters-in-law Almeda Smythe and husband Delmar, Mildred Yungblut and husband Harry and Lillian Priestap, brothers-in-law Carl Brickman and wife Ruby and Clarence Brickman and wife Martha  and father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles and Ida Brickman. Family and friends may call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2nd St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wartburg at 11:00 a.m.  Rev. William Kramer will officiate. Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
