Drowning Prevention Week wrapping up

As we head into the weekend Drowning Prevention Week in Canada is wrapping up.

With this heat you can expect lots of people to be out swimming. According to Lifesaving Society of Canada statistics roughly 166 Ontarians die in preventable water-related incidents every year.

Colton Maracle, the Aquatics Supervisor at the Stratford-Perth YMCA, says you have to be prepared for emergency situations:

Maracle adds you shouldn’t dive in to help someone who’s drowning:

Swimming children should never be out of arm’s reach of whoever is looking after them. You can find more drowning prevention tips at the Life Saving Society’s website.
