Third mosquito pool tests positive for West Nile virus

The Perth District Health Unit is warning about an increase in West Nile virus activity.

This comes as a third mosquito pool tested positive for the virus in Perth County. The PDHU says so far there have been 94 positive pools across Ontario.

In Stratford, St Marys, Mitchell, and Listowel, roadside catch-basins have been treated to reduce the populations of the type of mosquitoes that can spread it.

This is the time of year that humans are the most at risk for getting West Nile, although there has been only one human case reported in the province. Make sure you take steps like wearing insect repellant and light coloured, long sleeved clothes to help protect you from West Nile.
