The Avon Maitland District School Board says it had a record-breaking summer learning program this year for Grades 1 and 2.
The board says 141 students from 26 schools took part.
The mornings were focused on boosting literacy and numeracy, depending on what the child needed. The afternoons were focused on experience-based learning at places like museums and conservation areas.
Numeracy skills saw a 25% growth in Grade 1 students and a 32% growth for those in Grade 2. In literacy the children averaged a jump of two reading levels by the end of the course.
