Unemployment rate up in region

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says more people were looking for work in our area last month.

The unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region went up 0.8 per cent to 3.8 per cent between November and December. In that same time the provincial unemployment rate fell by 0.2 per cent to 5.7 per cent.

That represents an increase of 1,800 more people looking for work for a total of 160,000.

The total number employed rose from 153,500 in November to 154,000 in December with part-time gains of 900 offset by losses in full-time positions.
