Virginia Sophia Sherlock, 96, of Stratford passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday April 19, 2017. Virginia was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on November 5, 1920.

Cherished wife of the late Robert G. Sherlock (1990). Loving mother of Susan Green (Jim), Jean Coxon (Bill), Anita Buitendyk (Ben) and Nancy Weicker (Wayne). Dear grandmother of Julie Erb (Darcy), Sandra Kuttis (Erik), Wesley Coxon (Preilene), Jeffrey Coxon (Laura), Andrew Buitendyk (Melanie), Carolyn White (Darryl), Adam Buitendyk (Jylian), Kristen Cook (Ryan), Francine Coxon and Jesse Weicker (Ashlie). Wonderful great grandmother of 20 great grandchildren (10 girls and 10 boys). Survived by her sister Emma Pfeiffer, sisters–in-law Joan and Shannon McMahon and nieces and nephews, all in the United States.

Mom & Dad were married on November 7, 1941 in California.  In 1946, they drove from Los Angeles to Canada with three children under the age of three to the farm north of Shakespeare, which would be her home for the next 52 years, until she moved to Stratford in 1998.  She loved family history, gardening, camping, line dancing, Scrabble and crafts of all kinds.

Predeceased by her parents John and Emma McMahon, brothers Jack, Earl and John McMahon, sister Elizabeth Morgan and niece Denise Murphy.

Friends will be received at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert St. Stratford on Sunday April 23, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 142 Ontario Street, Stratford on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment in St. Andrews Cemetery, North Easthope. Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church Roof Fund may be made through the funeral home by calling 519-271-5062.
