St. Marys gets approval to hire Stratford Police

Stratford Police officers will be patrolling St. Marys starting January 1st. The application has been approved by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission and members of council.

The town says the decision to make a change from the OPP was made following an extensive review. It says the Stratford Police proposal offered a number of service level improvements at a reduced cost.

There will be an initial start-up cost of about $308,500 to make the change. However the yearly cost for the Stratford Police will be about $929,500 compared to $1,155,000 for the OPP.
