Butternut Trees making a Comeback

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is working to replenish endangered native butternut trees.

The U-T-R-C-A is planting 39 grafted butternut trees, and three grown from seed, in the Butternut Seed Orchard in Innerkip.

The Forest Gene Conservation Association is archiving the species which is threatened by a fungal disease.

Healthy butternut twigs are grafted onto black walnut trees for survival.
