The Perth District Health Unit is putting out the word that tests on mosquitoes in the region have come back positive for West Nile Virus.

The health unit says the tests were carried out just north east of Mitchell and it’s the first positive test of the season for the county.

Public Health Inspector Stephanie Carlisle says this is usually the time of year the area sees positive tests.

She says the best ways to reduce your risk are covering up, wearing insect repellent, clearing any standing or still water on your property and wearing light coloured clothing.
