Elizabeth (Betty) Lamont Davies, age 85, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2014 at Stratford General Hospital. She was born in Schumacher Ontario.
Beloved wife of the late Rev. John Davies, loving mother to Beth Long and husband Fred, John Davies and wife Carmen, David Davies and wife Joanne, Susan Celentano and husband Jeff, Bruce Davies and wife Pam and Trevor Davies and wife Lisa. Grandmother to Michelle (Ryan), Kim (Ken), Chris (Jodi), Carmen, Shawn (Jen), Eric (Heather), Melissa, Monica (Jeff), Elizabeth, Christine, Leah, Rhys, Julie. Great-Grandmother to Derrick, Hailey, Teegan, Jack, Regan, Ellie, Lauren, Ashley, Ruby, Emma and Taylor. She was predeceased by her parents David and Winnifred Killins, brother Ken Killins and sister Norma Pitcaithly.
Betty graduated from teachers college in 1947 and began her teaching career in South Porcupine, Ontario. Over the following years she held teaching positions in Ailsa Craig, Kirkland Lake, and finally in Stratford where she retired from Avon School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario.
Betty was an active member of St. John’s United Church and UCW. Her joy in story telling was appreciated by many groups. She could often be found telling a joke to residents and staff at Greenwood Court where she regularly volunteered. Betty was an avid watercolour painter.
Towards the end of her life, Betty would often say “just be happy” and we would like to pass that message on.
Visitation will be at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday April 4, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral Service will be held at St. John’s United Church on Saturday April 5, at 11 am. Rev. Michelle Down will officiate.
