Ruth Hansford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Stratford General Hospital on December 25, at the age of 84. Lovingly remembered by her five children, Michael (Louise), Peter (Velma), Ruth Ann McBride (Dave), Paul (Lee Pridham), and Lynn McKone (Murray). Cherished Grandmother of Jessica Thompson (Darryl), Jennifer (Eugene), Jon David; Gord (Candace), Amanda (Adam Ryan); Jamie Huether (Ty), Chad McBride (Dayna); Megan (Billy), Greg; Alyssa McKone (Mike) and Tyler McKone. She leaves behind 12 beautiful great-grandchildren. Ruth will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon (May 29, 1972). She was also predeceased by three sisters, Marion Weckworth, Doreen Dooley, and Louise Meredith. Born June 9, 1932 in St. Mary’s to Frank and Ruby Madden. Mom and Dad settled in Stratford where they raised their five children. Mom returned to nursing following the death of her husband at the age of 39. She was a proud nursing graduate of St. Mary’s Hospital class of 1953, and a longstanding nurse with the VON. She was devoted to her catholic faith, a lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League and member of Immaculate Conception Church. Ruth was a warm and compassionate woman who devoted her life to her family and to helping others. She enjoyed golfing, in particular ladies day at the Muni, her regular walks around the Avon River, playing bridge, and following sports, especially her Montreal Canadians. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She took a keen interest in her grandchildren’s lives and was a wonderful support to each. She will definitely live on through them. Ruth’s family will receive friends and relatives at W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday December 28 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday December 29 at 11am at Immaculate Conception Church, 50 Well Street, Stratford. A reception will follow at the church. Family burial will take place at Avondale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Rotary Club of Stratford – Hospice Project, or the Stratford General Hospital Foundation. Thank you to the staff at Stratford General Hospital, in particular the Palliative Care and Stroke Recovery units for their wonderful care and support, and to Dr. Edwards, Dr. Heisz, Cedarcroft Place and Father David. Lastly, a very sincere thank you from the Hansford family to the many relatives, friends, co-workers and agencies that provided love and support to our mother, father, and family over many years. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
