Ingersoll GM Workers Head to Picket Line Over Job Security

Union workers at Ingersoll’s GM auto plant are now on strike as a tentative agreement has yet to be agreed upon.

Unifor was in talks with GM following its decision in January to cut 625 jobs at the plant and shift part of its production to Mexico.

Unifor Local 88’s plant chair Mike Van Boekel says job security is the primary concern.

The union says cheaper labour costs in Mexico and NAFTA are to blame for the job losses this year.

As-many-as 2,800 jobs could be impacted ahead of a new agreement.
