IPM Organizers Close Tent City Following Heavy Rain

Officials from the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo have closed the site near Walton following yesterday’s heavy rain.

The IPM tents were flooded last night and organizers made the call due to safety concerns for attendees and to protect the land.

Despite soggy conditions, plowing matches are continuing today and organizers say the tent city will re-open tomorrow.

It marks the fifth time Huron County has hosted the IPM, which is celebrating its 100th year of operation.

A recent study by the province shows last year’s IPM near Harriston brought in nearly $29 million into the local economy in Wellington County as a result of the event.
