The Perth and Wellington County OPP is reminding drivers you must stop for school buses when stop arms are extended and its lights are flashing.
It comes following a number of reports from the public regarding drivers not obeying the rules.
The OPP says it’s a serious safety concern, especially at rural drop offs as children could be crossing the street.
The penalty for passing is $400 and six demerit points, or criminal charges if a student is hurt as a result.
Police say even if there is a median or barrier in the road, both sides must stop.
The OPP is also reminding drivers all penalties in school and community safety zones are doubled.
