UPDATED: Wynne to Table Legislation in Queen’s Park to End College Strike

Negotiations between the union representing college faculty and the colleges have broken down and the Ontario government is tabling legislation to force faculty back to work.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says she’s calling MPP’s in to work throughout the weekend with the goal of getting students back into class as soon as possible.

The faculty of Ontario’s 24 colleges including Fanshawe and Conestoga have rejected the forced settlement from colleges.

Conestoga College has now confirmed the fall semester will be extended.

Should classes resume they will run until December 22nd and begin again on January 2nd.

There’s no word on when the delayed winter semester would tentatively begin at its campuses in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford and Ingersoll.

Fanshawe College has cancelled its upcoming Open House and says there are plans to ensure students will still be able to finish their studies.

There are talks of extending the fall semester to as-late-as January 23rd for Fashawe’s campuses in London, Simcoe, Woodstock and St. Thomas.
