Huron County Council to Discuss Cutting Vacant Property Tax Rebate

Huron County Council is expected to discuss the prospect of phasing out a property tax rebate currently offered to landowners with vacant properties.

County Treasurer Michael Blumhagen says what the rebate has indirectly caused less incentive for property owners to find tenants, especially if it’s a storefront in a member municipality.

The rebate is currently 30 per cent of the tax on a vacant property.

The motion is set to be explored further by council in December’s meeting.
