City Goes Back on Single-Sidewalk Policy for Ballantyne Street

Stratford’s city council has decided to scrap a plan which affected sidewalks through the city which could impact accessibility.

Four years ago council gave the greenlight on plans to only keep one of two sidewalks on streets following any sort of excavation.

The most recent plan affected residents on Ballantyne Avenue after the replacement of water and sewer lines in the area.

Questions were also raised to council about how the city chose to inform affected residents with similar work planned for the springtime.

Staff will be coming up with a plan for two sidewalks on Ballantyne.

The city says the decision was made to help save money on roads projects, in the case of Ballantyne Street it was around $28,500.
