Stratford Festival Announces $100 Million Spirit of the Tent Campaign

The Spirit of the Tent is a $100 million fundraising campaign to bring the Stratford Festival’s vision of a new Tom Patterson Theatre to life.

The festival announced the launch of the campaign this morning, a crucial funding component to go along with the $40 million commitment made by the federal and provincial governments.

One of the project’s co-chairs, Ophelia Lazaridis announced a $10 million pledge to the campaign this morning in Stratford.

The Festival’s Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino says the project would see the theatre made to serve a number of purposes.

He says thanks to Lazaridis’ donation and the rest of the contributors, the campaign is off to a great start.

Mayor Dan Mathieson is chairing the public meeting regarding the future grounds of the proposed redevelopment at 48 Water Street.

CAO Rob Horne says council is hoping to hear feedback and answer questions today.

He says if you’re not able to make it to the meeting you can leave feedback on the city’s website.

Horne says it’s one of the final pieces of the theatre’s proposed redevelopment process for council before it makes a final decision moving forward.

The first meeting is set for 4:00pm at the Rotary Complex, with another beginning at 7:00pm.
