Esther Edith Gettler of Stratford, Ontario passed away peacefully at St. Marys Memorial Hospital on February 4, 2018, one month before her 95th birthday.
Born in South Easthope Township on March 22, 1923, eldest daughter of the late Abner and Vera (Voigt) Ische.  Beloved wife of the late R. Lloyd Gettler, who predeceased her on March 27, 2005. Esther and Lloyd were married in Woodstock on August 4, 1945. They spent their early years in Woodstock before moving to Stratford. Esther was the loving mother of the late Lynda Quinn (Rick), Larry Gettler (Ann), Judy Robinson (Bob) and Cathy Gettler-Jones (Don).
As a family they spent many years camping and fishing. Their favourite place was always Uncle Les’ and Aunt Edna’s in Matheson. Esther and Lloyd also enjoyed over 20 winters in the Florida Keys. Mom will be remembered for her excellent pies, trigger chowder and her caring and loving nature towards her family, who were always her first priority. Grandmother of Rhonda Kearney, Katie Pickering (James), Matt Quinn (Trish), Melissa Quinn, Dan Gettler, Mike Gettler (Rose), Marcy Martin (Tony), Tim Robinson (Shandi), Dallas Jones (Jessie), Lauren Jones (Kory) and several great grandchildren. Also survived by three wonderful sisters Alice Bested, Jean St. Clair, Betty Ranton (Reg) and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Lynda Quinn, brother Ken Ische, sister-in-law Althea Ische, and brothers-in-law Robert Griffin, Wilfred Bested and Jack St. Clair. She will be fondly remembered.
Friends and relatives may visit at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, February 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the interment at Avondale Cemetery.
