City Considering Creation of Youth Advisory Council

Stratford City Council is exploring the creation of a Youth Advisory Council.

Councillors heard the presentation last night from a local student, Gabriel Edwards.

It would mean two students from each of the three high schools in the city would be selected to serve and advise city council.

Edwards says it would get students more involved in the community and have a larger stake in its future.

Similar councils have been created in large cities such as Toronto, with one forming in London and a youth council already advising Minto.

City council would still need to come up with a selection process and work out meetings.

It’s expected to be discussed further in the next Finance and Administration Committee meeting.
