Fencing Erected at Tom Patterson Theater

Fencing is now in place around the Tom Patterson theatre and now the entrance of the White House on St. David St. after the city issued an unsafe order due to the poor state of the home’s columns.   The Stratford Friends of the White House group are concerned after finding out that property owner Kevin Larson has applied to the city for a building permit to allow for the removal of the homes 18 columns.

The group said the removal of the columns will impact the 1866 home’s structure.Kevin Larson said in the Beacon that the columns are beyond the point where they can be fixed. He said “The City of Stratford wanted to repair (the columns), except the engineering report he was shown, shows they can’t be repaired, and are rotten from the inside-out. “Councillor Martin Ritsma has already expressed an intention to revisit at council, a May 2016 decision regarding the property. That decision was to not start the process of designating the mansion as a heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act, despite that designation having the support of the Heritage Stratford advisory committee.
