Freezing rain on the way for Stratford

It might be a good idea to postpone any travel plans you have for this weekend.

While Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement calling for a few hours of freezing rain early Thursday morning, an even bigger storm is expected to sweep across Southern Ontario over the weekend with some areas seeing as 20 millimetres of freezing rain and high winds that could make travelling a mess and cause power outages.

Here in Stratford, we could see a few hours of freezing rain Saturday and Sunday but it’s expected because of where the city is located that it will remain normal rain that will fall most of Saturday and Sunday.

Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Etienne Gregoire says the storm is coming in from the south.

“It comes from the Southern U.S., originating from Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.”

Areas that are on higher terrain are expected to see most of the freezing rain with some of the harder hit places expected to be Sudbury and North Bay.
