Perth County Women in Politics Roadshow making stop in Stratford

Encouraging women to enter the political world by running for muncipal council or as a school trustee.

That’s the idea behind a series of events created by City of Stratford Councillor Kathy Vassilakos and Perth East Councillor Helen Dowd called the Perth County Women in Politics Roadshow, it will be making stops in Stratford and Mitchell and will feature a panel of women involved in those areas talking about their experience and taking questions from the audience.

The event in Stratford is Thursday at the Avondale Church beginning at 7:00 p.m..

Dowd is also a Councillor for Perth County and she says she has learned a lot from being an elected official.

“I really enjoy the experience of being a Councillor because I found I was able to connect a lot of dots with a lot of the things I had done at the grassroots level and so that has been really inspiring.”

On average, women only hold 25 per cent of the elected seats in municipal government ranking Canada 55th in the world in that area.
