Stratford Perth Museum welcoming special To Kill a Mockingbird exhibit

It’s a beloved story and now a part of it will be in our city.

To mark the Stratford Festival’s production of To Kill a Mockingbird this season, the Stratford Perth Museum is going to house a special travelling exhibit coming from the Monroe County Museum in Monroeville Alabama which is the hometown of the novels author Harper Lee.

The exhibit will feature a number of pieces including photos of Harper’s home town and storyboards talking about its history.

Stratford Perth Museum General Manager John Kastner says the idea for the exhibit came from studying what plays were showing at the festival.

“It was literally a cold call, I phoned down there on a Friday afternoon and told them about Stratford Ontario and the Stratford Festival and pitched the idea of them creating a travelling exhibit for us which they did.”

Kastner adds the exhibit, which opens May 11th, is the first of its kind in Canada to feature pieces from Lees hometown.
