city-wide food drive in stratford starts sunday

Just before people start leaving town to enjoy their summer holidays they are being asked to help those in need.

This is the second year for the City-wide Food Drive which starts Sunday and goes until next Saturday with it being a coordinated effort between six Stratford food banks.

You can drop off donations at grocery stores and businesses throughout Stratford and there is also a door to door food drive taking place next Wednesday night.

Last year, 20 thousand pounds of non-perishable food was collected with this years goal set at 50 thousand pounds which would help provide food to 1,700 people who rely on food banks every month to get by.

Stratford House of Blessing Executive Director Theressa McMurray says people often forget that food donations are still needed during the warmer months.

“People are very busy, schedules change, they are going to the cottage and having a great time, we just don’t think about the food bank and people needing things in the summer.”

Other food banks being helped through the drive include The Salvation Army Stratford and the St. Paul’s Church Food Bank.
