First steps in $45 million dollar fibre optic project underway in Stratford

The first steps in a $45 million dollar project to bring fibre optic to homes and businesses in our city are underway.

Wightman is carrying out phase one of the project which will see over 300 km of fibre optic lines put in place across Stratford and will see homes and businesses in the north end be the first to have access.

The first part of the project will see the area from north of the Avon River to the Huron Street Bridge and north of Huron Street have the ability to be connected to the service.

Wightman Marketing Manager Hope Reidt says her company is one of the few in Stratford to offer fibre optic installation directly to homes and businesses.

“As far as the internet goes, fibre to the home enables us to provide speeds up to and beyond 1 Gigabyte and that is a direct connection into your home or business so you aren’t sharing that with your neighbors that is all yours to use.”

Other parts of the project would be carried out in 2019 and 2020 until all of Stratford is connected to the service.
