Perth County farmer fined over $2 thousand in relation to animal cruelty charges

A 47-year-old Perth County farmer has been charged over $2 thousand in relation to animal cruelty charges.

Ton Van Gorp pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Stratford Provincial Court to causing an animal to be in distress and failing to provide for general welfare of cattle.

The Ontario SPCA says on November 11th last year, investigators used a search warrant to go onto Gorp’s property in Perth County over concerns of the welfare of cows there.

They say a cow had been lifted by the halter on her head and wasn’t eating or chewing her cud.

There were also other offences including cows seen with open sores and lesions, and who had trouble walking as well as others that were too big for the stalls they were being kept in.
