Preliminary results released for homeless enumeration in Stratford and Perth County

Helping those who experience homelessness find a place to call home.

That’s the idea after the preliminary results of a homeless enumeration taken in Stratford and Perth County were unveiled Tuesday at Stratford City Hall, officials say they conducted 81 surveys with individuals at sites in the area last month, up from the 57 last year, who were experiencing homelessness.

Officials say that a majority of those who were in the situation were single, straight, white males between 25 and 30 years old with the average duration first-time responder’s say they were homeless 7.5 months, the cause of a majority of the situations was conflict in the home.

Stratford Housing Stability Policy and Program Coordinator Jeneane Fast says the information gathered is invaluable.

“We’re hoping that it will really help us to be able to target and tailor some of our programming, enhance some of the programming we currently have, as well as to reach out to those individuals who provided us with some of their contact information to receive further assistance.”

The enumeration was carried out from May 15th to the 18th.
