Walmart staff in Stratford being credited with helping to save woman from fraud

Walmart staff in Stratford are being credited with helping to save a woman from becoming a fraud victim.

Stratford Police say they were notified Wednesday by staff at the store about a 70-year-old woman who had purchased $2100 worth of iTunes gift cards.

Officers say they were provided a description of the woman and her vehicle and they located her a short time later in the Zehrs parking lot where she was about to buy more gift cards.

The woman said she had been told by Microsoft that she needed to pay for remote service of her computer or else it would be infected with a virus.

Police are reminding you to contact them or a local computer business if you’re unsure if the information you have received asking for services over the internet is fraudulent.
