Twelve-week-long strike over at salt mine in Goderich

A 12-week strike at a salt mine in Goderich is now over.
A release was sent out Monday afternoon stating that members of Unifor Local 16-0 have voted to accept a collective agreement with Compass Minerals.
The new three-year deal includes a  2.5 per cent wage increase this year and next, and a three per cent increase in 2020, and maintains previous pensions and benefits.
The strike began April 27th when Unifor says workers rejected a company proposal that included mandatory overtime, 16-hour shifts and 72-hour work weeks.
The deal was reached by Unifor and Compass Minerals on Saturday, two weeks after workers set up a blockade of wooden pallets at the mine’s entrance because they said the company was bringing in out-of-province replacements.
The mine employs 348 workers.
