Stratford Fire Department releases Report to the Community

The Stratford Fire Department had a faster average response time en route to a scene last year than the year prior.

That’s just one of the pieces of information provided in the department’s just-released Report to the Community.

The average response time last year was 2.44 minutes compared to 3.05 in 2016.

Stratford Fire Chief John Paradis says the response times are made up of variables including certain situations when calls come in.

“Say for an example, the duty crew is training on one side of the city and we get a call in on the opposite side of the city and the guys have to pack everything up into the truck, the firefighters have to respond across the city and get to the scene.”

As for dollar loss, incidents caused $1.95 million in damages last year compared to $1.68 in 2016 with the department called to 2,270 incidents last year.

Medical calls made up the majority of the calls at 1,185.
