With marijuana set to become legal in Canada, the OPP says members must be fit for duty

OPP members must report to work fit for duty.

Just a day ahead of the legalization of marijuana, the Ontario Provincial Police have come out with a statement saying that they are committed to the health, safety and wellness of their members and the communities they serve.

They say maintaining a drug and alcohol-free workplace is a crucial step to fulfilling that commitment and that a member of the force is fit for duty when they are in a physical, mental and emotional state that allows the individual to perform assigned duties competently and in a manner that does not compromise or threaten the safety or health of that individual or others, the environment or OPP property.

The force says that reporting to work fit for duty requires a member to be without limitations resulting from, but not limited to, all drugs and alcohol.

Locally, the Stratford Police have not publicly released their guidelines for dealing with marijuana when it becomes legal.
