New data centre set to be opened in Stratford next year

A new data centre is set to be open in Stratford.

After waiting over a year because of uncertainty around trade talks between Canada, the United States and Mexico, a European company called ScutiX has announced that they will be opening a new data centre in our city which will be powered by renewable energy.

They say their plan is to open the centre next year but the company wouldn’t say how much the investment is worth or how many jobs might be created through its opening.

InvestStratford Chief Executive Officer Joani Gerber tells the My Stratford Now Newsroom that ScutiX will be able to operate here because of the infrastructure we already have in place.

“High capacity computing for large organizations doing really high tech research, in large part this investment was made possible because of the work that Festival Hydro has done on their conservation programming and the renewable stuff they have been working on.”

ScutiX and the City of Stratford are still discussing a contract for the renewable energy source to power the centre.
