Officials praising voter turnout for municipal election in Stratford

Officials are praising the voter turnout in the City of Stratford.

While as of 5 p.m. Monday, the eleventh day for voting and election day, 42.23 % of eligible Stratford electors had voted, officials say that they expect that number will finish higher as many people voted online and by telephone before the 8 p.m. deadline.

In 2014. during the last municipal election, Stratford saw 47.60 % of eligible voters cast ballots compared to the average voter turnout across the province in that election which was 43.12 %.

Stratford Chief Administrative Officer Rob Horne says this was a well-run election by those behind the scenes.

“Number one I’m really proud of my team, the city clerk and everyone who volunteered and everyone who’s here supporting democracy, that’s number one, number two is really thanking everybody for coming out to vote I think we’re going to see a very strong voter turn out.”

It’s expected to be a day or two before we learn what the final voter turnout was.
