Stratford Police credited with assisting in province-wide human trafficking investigation

Stratford Police are being credited with helping in a province-wide operation cracking down on human trafficking.

Fifteen people have been charged with 45 offences related to human trafficking with provincial police saying the arrests came as a result of a partnership with the RCMP and 45 other local forces across the province including Stratford Police.

They say the arrests were made during a seven-day sweep and locally, police say they teamed up with the OPP southwest region and ran a two-day sting.

Stratford Police Acting Inspector Mark Taylor says the effort to end human trafficking is ongoing.

“Our officers identify sex-trade workers then they try to bring them into town and actually have discussions with them in a one on one setting to support them, educate them, and offer any assistance that we can.”

Provincial police say the operation helped get seven people out of potentially exploitative situations, including two under the age of eighteen.
