Accused in Stratford Cenotaph case misses third court appearance, scheduled to be sentenced Friday

We are still waiting to learn what the sentence will be for the 20-year-old man accused of driving a vehicle into a cement wall near the Stratford Cenotaph.

Nathaneal Tewelde was scheduled to appear in court for a sentencing hearing in Stratford on Thursday but failed to appear after Defence lawyer Michael Fair said a ride the 20-year-old had arranged with his father didn’t come

through.

Field said that Tewelde, who pleaded guilty to impaired driving in late October, said he had asked his father for a drive to the court from his home in Kitchener but his father ended up having to go to

Toronto to pick someone up on an arriving flight at Pearson International Airport.

The flight was delayed, Tewelde said, which lead to his father being unable to drive him and Fair says the story was confirmed by the twenty-year-olds father.

Tewelde has also pleaded guilty to mischief under $5 thousand for smashing a telephone at Stratford Police headquarters after he was arrested in August while three other charges were withdrawn.

This is the third court appearance Tewelde has missed.

He is to be sentenced Friday during a hearing expected to begin around 10 a.m.
