Driver Sentenced In Stratford Cenotaph Case

It works out to over a week behind bars for the man convicted of crashing his vehicle near the Stratford Cenotaph.

Nathaneal Tewelde was sentenced in a Stratford courtroom Tuesday to 10 days in jail for the incident that happened last August.

With credit for pre-sentence custody, Tewelde will serve six more days in prison.

A bench warrant had been issued for the 20-year-old Kitchener man after he missed court appearances last Thursday and Friday and he turned himself into Stratford Police on Monday.

Tewelde was also ordered to pay $10-thousand in restitution for a cement retaining wall that was heavily damaged in the collision but that figure, according to city officials, only makes up about half the cost of the damage caused.

Stratford Chief Administrative Officer Rob Horne tells the My Stratford Now Newsroom that the city is reviewing its options as far as recouping the full cost of the damage caused.

Tewelde is also not allowed to drive for two years.

In late October, Tewelde pleaded guilty to impaired driving and mischief under $5-thousand.
