Palmer, Rodger Laverne

Rodger Laverne Palmer, of Stratford, Ontario, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, December 3, 2018, after a trying final few years of life without his wife of 60 years, Sadie (née Bast). Born October 6, 1931 in Stratford, Ontario, he was the son of the late Clifford and Mabel (née Wickie) Palmer. He is survived by:  his daughter, Patricia Jane Palmer and family, husband Gary Sweet and children Mitchell & Megan of Ottawa, Ontario; and his son, Jeffrey Michael Palmer and his family, wife Candice and children Sarah & Kelsey, of Stratford, Ontario. He is survived as well by his sister, Darlene Smart, sister-in-law, Erma, 7 nieces and 6 nephews. Rodger joins his mother, father, and brother, Gerald, along with 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, 3 nephews and 1 niece. The family will receive friends Friday, December 7th from 12:00 o’clock noon until 2 pm at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street in Stratford. Private memorial services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at the Avondale cemetery with an interment service for family. Rodger lived his entire life in Stratford. He was an extremely loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.  He was very successful and loved his job of many years as the City of Stratford Tax Collector.  He spoke softly, but carried a big stick professionally.  To those who knew him personally, he always had open arms and a loving smile.  He loved to tend his veggie garden, mow his perfect lawn, fish with his father and grandson, travel, and play cribbage and watch Major League Baseball with his many, many, many friends. He is already missed profoundly. In lieu of flowers, Rodger asked that memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the Alzheimer Society of Canada through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
