UPDATE: One person in critical condition after 5 vehicle collision on Highway 8

UPDATE: 10:21 a.m.

One person is in critical condition in hospital and charges could be pending after a collision outside Stratford.

Emergency services were called to Highway 8, between Stratford and Shakespeare, around 5:30 Thursday afternoon after a collision involving five vehicles.

Police say a tractor-trailer was exiting a private driveway to turn east on the highway when it collided with several vehicles that were traveling eastbound, six people were brought to the hospital with one then transported to a hospital in London by a land ambulance where they are currently in critical condition.

Perth County OPP Constable Barry Cookson says charges could be laid in the collision.

“It is possible but those won’t be known until the investigation is complete by the technical collision investigators.”

Cookson adds there was blowing snow falling at the time of the collision but just what caused the crash remains under investigation.
