Firefighters in St.Marys are getting a boost from the community and it might end up saving lives.
Officials say that an anonymous person has donated $9-thousand toward the purchase of two thermal imaging cameras.
A TIC allows firefighters to see areas of heat through smoke, darkness, or heat-permeable barriers and are usually used in cases where people are trapped and rescuers can’t find them.
The fire department currently has a 15-year-old TIC and the department says they have been experiencing problems with it over the past two years.
Other lifesaving rescue equipment was prioritized this year and the purchase of a new TIC was put off for the future until the donation was made.
Officials say the person made the donation during Fire Prevention Week in October.
