Stratford Police calling on the community to help do their part to stop impaired driving with new legislation in place

Stratford Police are calling on the community to do their part to stop impaired driving.

The comment comes as new rules are now in effect across Canada that increases penalties for drunk driving and expands police powers to examine a suspect motorist.

The legislation gives police the right to ask for a breath sample from any driver they lawfully stop.

Previous legislation required there to be a reasonable suspicion a person had been drinking.

The legislation was passed in June and came at the same time as new rules for drug-impaired driving.
