The cause of a kitchen fire that caused around $100-thousand in damage at a home in Stratford is under investigation.
Stratford Fire Chief John Paradis tells My Stratford Now.com that the department got a call around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from a passerby who reported seeing smoke coming from a home on Forman Street.
Paradis says firefighters immediately extinguished a fire in the kitchen of the home and the homeowners weren’t in the house at the time but two pets were taken out of the home during a search.
Officials say a dog was found unconscious and despite it being given oxygen it later died while a cat survived and was brought to an animal hospital.
Fire prevention officers are working to determine a cause but it’s not believed to be suspicious.
