A 42-year-old Zorra Township man is dead after his snowmobile went into the water in a lake near Muskoka.
Emergency services say they were called out to Hassard Lake around 12 p.m. Sunday after the snowmobile went into the open water on the lake.
Police say their investigation has revealed that the driver of the snowmobile, Shawn McAllister, was driving his vehicle on the lake in an area where there was open water when he fell in.
The driver was eventually brought out of the lake but was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police would like to remind snowmobilers to check the ice condition before traveling on lakes, rivers or waterways.
