Changes coming to what you can recycle in Stratford

There are changes coming to what you can recycle in Stratford.
At their meeting Monday night, Stratford City Council awarded the contract for the processing of blue box recyclable materials to the Bluewater Recycling Association at $185, plus GST, per tonne.
It comes as the city’s current contract with the BRA expires at the end of this month and, over the course of their seven-year contract, the city says it has received more than $160 thousand in revenue from the sale of blue box materials.
They say recent industry changes, including a decision by China to ban certain recycled materials from import, has negatively impacted the market for recyclables.
Under the new contract, certain materials that are difficult to process will no longer be collected.
They include milk cartons and ice cream containers, paint cans and aluminum foil.
