Unemployment rate in Stratford area dropped in June

The unemployment rate in our area went down last month.

That’s according to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, who say that the unemployment rate in the Stratford-to-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region decreased by 1.3 percentage points to an estimated 3.4 percent.

They say that gains in both full-time and part-time jobs lead to an increase of 8,500 in employment in the area.

Accommodation and food services, wholesale and retail trade, healthcare and social assistance lead the way in increases.

Nationally, the economy lost 22-hundred jobs last month, nudging the jobless rate up from 5.4 to 5.5 per cent.
