Stratford Police issue warning over home improvement scam

Stratford Police are warning you to be on the lookout for a home improvement scam.

They say they received a complaint on Wednesday from a 78-year-old man who lives in the east end of Stratford about an unknown man who had come to the man’s home and offered to repair his driveway.

Police say the 78-year-old man gave cash to the suspect with the understanding that he would return to fix the driveway and the suspect returned to the home several more times and took more cash from the victim without any work being done.

On Wednesday, the victim realized what was happening and he chased the suspect away with a total of $18 000 lost through the scam.

The suspect’s identity isn’t known and he never gave a name to the victim but he’s described as being in his late 20’s, approximately 5’9 tall, with short brown hair and a Scottish accent.

Anyone with any information on what happened is asked to call Stratford Police or Crime Stoppers.
