Household hazardous waste collection this weekend in Stratford

Here’s your final chance to get rid of any household hazardous waste you may have.

The City of Stratford is hosting its last household hazardous waste collection of the year this weekend at the Romeo Street landfill.

It’s taking place from 9 a.m. until noon and you’re asked to make sure products are tightly sealed and in their original containers, and to never mix any of the materials together.

Officials say you should place the products in the trunk of your vehicle and drive to the household hazardous waste depot at the landfill site.

Trained professionals will receive, package, transport and store the materials safely and in compliance with all regulations.

What is household hazardous waste?
• Paints and coatings
• Solvents
• Motor oil and filters
• Batteries
• Aerosol containers
• Antifreeze
• Propane tanks
• Fluorescent tubes and bulbs (limit 10)
• Pesticides and lawn fertilizers
• Household cleaners
• Fire extinguishers

Officials say the don’t accept PCB waste, radioactive waste, flares, fireworks and ammunition, pathological waste or open or leaky containers.
