Police are alerting the public to keep a close watch out for property rental scams.
At the end of last month, Huron County OPP says a Grand Bend resident dodged one of these scams when she was asked to send $2-thousand for a new place she was trying to secure in Clinton.
She initially responded to an online listing of a property for rent and then the scammer contacted her asking for the deposit in return for the keys.
Police say the victim picked up on some red flags, including that the scammer would only communicate by text, and was able to avoid falling prey to the scam.
They are reminding you to be careful when going about these transactions and they add “if a deal sounds too good to be true, it likely is.”
